About Michon Mackedon

Michon Mackedon was born and raised in Nevada. She earned a BA in History from the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and a Master’s Degree in English from the same institution.

Michon was employed as a Professor of English and Humanities at Western Nevada College for 30 years until her retirement. She was appointed to the Governor’s Commission on Nuclear Projects in 1986 and has served her state in that capacity ever since, by appointment of five Nevada governors. Thus, she brings both scholarship and experience to her book, Bombast, which was born of her love of language, her fascination with her state’s nuclear history and her desire to tell the story that unfolded as she looked deeper into the ways both atomic testing and nuclear waste storage have been-and are-sold to her neighbors under the mantles of “sound science” and “proven safety.”

BombAst

Bombast tells a terrific story about atomic testing and nuclear waste disposal in the American West. Author Michon Mackedon is especially interested in how the atomic story has been “spun” to assure those living next to nuclear sites that they are “safe” because “sound science” is in charge.

At times witty, at times deadly serious, Bombast will make you think twice about America’s atomic history and its current nuclear waste storage dilemmas.

Bombast has won several prestigious awards, including a 2011 Foreword Review Book of the Year Award (Gold Medal) in the Regional category; an IPPY (Independent Publishers Book Award) Silver Medal for Best Regional Non-Fiction; Pinnacle Book Achievement Award (Best Books in Non-Fiction); National Indie Excellence Book Award in Regional Non-Fiction.
